Do You Want To Build A Snowman?

Sorry to get that song stuck in your head (again), but we are on a roll with creative acts of kindness this week!

If you follow us on Instagram, then you might've seen something about a charity club day. As some of you know, I work at a local community college as the Advisor of the Associated Student Union, and we host monthly club days. Last month, the students voted to theme it "Harvest Fest" and the clubs collected an AMAZING amount of donations for organizations. The Executive Council supported the clubs by offering a station for students to pause a create a holiday card for the women at the Downtown Women's Center. (You can check out some of those photos below!)

Today's theme, however, is "Tis the Season" where the clubs will be taking a different approach to charity -- hint: one we love even more. Instead of collecting donations, they are offering creative acts of kindness at each of their tables! The idea is to catch students on their way to class and invite them to take an Art break in order to bestow some small happiness on an unsuspecting recipient. How ITLT of them... I wonder where they get it... I can't wait to see what exciting projects they come up with, but until then, here's a sneak peak at what the Executive Council will be hosting at their table.

Meet Olaf the Sock Snowman!

We'll be creating these funny friends and delivering them to the children at a local shelter. We originally got this idea (and photo) from RecyclArt.org. Visit their website for fun and free Olaf printable features!

And here's all you need in order to create your very own!
  • A bobby sock
  • Glue or hot glue gun
  • Fill bottom section with about 1 cup of rice
  • Fill medium section with rice and cotton balls
  • Fill top section with cotton balls
  • Secure sections with clear hair band elastics
  • Attach two 1 in.white pom poms as feet
  • Glue two large googly eyes
  • Use black felt as buttons, arms, smile, eyebrows, and hair
  • Use orange felt as his nose
